I’ve never been a huge fan of monotone workouts. The repetition of the same exercises over and over again easily bores me, and once boredom sets in, so does my lack of discipline. For a long time, I struggled to stick to any form of exercise regularly – until I discovered Pilates.
What I love about Pilates is that it’s never the same. There’s a natural flow to the movements that makes it easy to follow, yet it still challenges me in the best ways. It’s not only fun, but it also makes me feel good – inside and out. It’s helped me improve my posture, and even though it can be exhausting, with my muscles often sore afterwards, I find myself coming back for more. The mix of strength, flexibility, and flow keeps it engaging, and that’s exactly what I need in a workout.
But my love for movement doesn’t stop at Pilates. I’ve recently found peace in long fall walks. After suffering an ankle fracture last November, I’ve been slowly working my way back to longer distances, and these walks have become a key part of my recovery. There’s something therapeutic about walking, especially when the air is crisp, and the leaves crunch underfoot. It helps me clear my mind and declutter my thoughts. After a good walk, I feel refreshed and genuinely happy.
My favorite place to walk is by the water, whether it’s a lake or the sea. There’s a certain tranquility that comes with being near water – it’s like a mental reset for me. The combination of fresh air and the gentle sound of waves puts everything into perspective.
Next to Pilates and walking, I’ve also given yoga a try. While it helps me ground myself at times, there are moments when my mind wanders, and I find it hard to stay focused. It’s something I’m working on, but when yoga works, it calms me down like nothing else.
Overall, Pilates and long walks have become my go-to ways to move and unwind. Both activities make me feel strong, balanced, and at peace with myself. They’re more than just exercise – they’re part of how I embrace a mindful, fulfilling life.
